You make your child his or her lunch for school. You make it nutritious, wholesome and maybe even fun. How about some turkey and cheese, an apple or banana or both, money for milk and a juice box. Oh yeah, you put some chips to go with the sandwich. And a snack cake too.
Wow, nice lunch with a mix of things having nutritious value, and it’s all homemade, no cafeteria slop for your kid. This lunch says, “Mom and Dad care about me.”
But wait – your child arrives at school and a State agent is waiting to inspect that lunch and decides to reject it as not fit for your child’s consumption.
In Raeford, North Carolina the Caroline Journal is reporting:
“A preschooler at West Hoke Elementary School ate three chicken nuggets for lunch Jan. 30 because a state employee told her the lunch her mother packed was not nutritious. The girl’s turkey and cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips and apple juice did not meet US Department of Agriculture guidelines, according to the interpretation of the agent who was inspecting all lunch boxes in her More at Four classroom that day.”
The Division of Child Development and Early Education at the Department of Health and Human Services requires all lunches served in pre-kindergarten programs — including in-home day care centers — to meet USDA guidelines. That means lunches must consist of one serving of meat, one serving of milk, one serving of grain, and two servings of fruit or vegetables, even if the lunches are brought from home. When home-packed lunches do not include all of the required items, child care providers must supplement them with the missing ones.
The girl’s mother said she received a note from the school stating that students who did not bring a ‘healthy lunch’ would be offered the missing portions, which could result in a fee from the cafeteria, in her case $1.25.
“‘I don’t feel that I should pay for a cafeteria lunch when I provide lunch for her from home,’ the mother wrote in a complaint to her state representative…”
The girl’s grandmother, who sometimes helps pack her lunch, told Carolina Journal that she is a petite, picky 4-year-old who eats white whole wheat bread and is not big on vegetables.
‘What got me so mad is, number one, don’t tell my kid I’m not packing her lunch box properly,’ the girl’s mother [said]. ‘I pack her lunch box according to what she eats. It always consists of a fruit. It never consists of a vegetable. She eats vegetables at home because I have to watch her because she doesn’t really care for vegetables.'”
In essence, your child is being told by a school official that his or her lunch, sent from home by Mom or Dad or Grandma is unfit to it. What is that child supposed to think? My family doesn’t love me, the State loves me and will take care of me?
This is the Nanny State on steroids.
A caller to the Rush Limbaugh show stated: (Emphasis LCs)
About eight months ago my wife and I decided to enroll our son in daycare here in North Carolina, and I got this huge packet of sheets that I had to fill out, and they, you know, field trip permission slip, take your photo permission slip, and one of them was, “By signing this you agree that you’ll meet the state’s requirements for a preschool lunch,” even though I’m packing it. And it says I have to have six ounces of milk or a milk substitute, four ounces of meat or a meat substitute, three ounces of grain, three ounces of vegetable, three ounces of fruit, and goes on and on and on. And I did not sign it and I fought about it with them and they pointed me to the state official that I could talk to, and they told me that, “If your son doesn’t like milk just pack it anyway and we’ll dump it out for you and then you can pack something else.” And I said, “Do you know how much a gallon of milk costs?” And they said, “Well, that’s the rules and you have to follow ’em if you want to be in daycare.” So now I’ve got the government telling me that I’m not smart enough to feed my own child.
This is more than the government dictating to you. This is the government taking over your child’s thought process – who cares for me more.
Barack Obama, Michelle Obama and the Marxists and Nazi’s in the government need to get out of our decision making. It’s not their job, it’s none of their business and we should fight them to the bitter end.
If you anti-American, Saul Alinsky, Karl Marx Communists don’t like it here than get out. This is our country, our Constitution and you can’t destroy it.
Wake up America!
